BAC CONTINENTAL CASUALS 5 – 0 AC MULDOONS

Both teams were lucky to asked to play this fixture at the county ground, Leyland as part of a referee’s assessment day.  The pitch was immaculate and even the sun turned out for the lads.  CONTI put in a superb performance against one of the much fancied sides of the division.  Late withdrawals and availability issues meant CONTI had to line up with a 4 – 3 – 3 combination, with Ian “Gary” Parry slotting in at left back, and the evergreen Ryan “Bulldog” McMullan taking the number two jersey.  At half time CONTI were two up with goals from Denis Greenwood and Andy Taylor.  The second half saw much of the same, and CONTI looked comfortable after Jonathon Hothersall made it 3 – 0.  Muldoons made changes and altered formations as the game went on, but rarely troubled Mark Whelan in the CONTI nets.  Further goals from Andy Taylor and substitute Paul “Mido” Glover gave CONTI a well deserved victory and a boost for the goal difference.  All in all, a great team performance, and pleasing to get a clean sheet.

FULWOOD EASTEND 4 – 3 BAC CONTINENTAL CASUALS

After a solid start and some decent possession on a tricky surface, CONTI lost their first league game of the season durin a crazy ten minute spell in the first half of this fixture.  3 goals out of nowhere gave the home side the advantage going into half time.  CONTI pulled one back early in the second half, but sloppy defending again gave the home side their three goal advantage.  Despite long periods of pressure, CONT could only convert 2 of a hat full of chances.   This will go down as three points lost and we need to stop giving away silly goals.

Syndicate Trust Challenge Cup – First Round

BAC CONTINENTAL CASUALS 2 – 1 FULWOOD EAST END

An inspired 2nd half performance saw Conti come from behind to overcome our hosts Fulwood East End in this all Divison 1 clash. After lengthy spells of possession by Conti during the 1st half, it was Fulwood who took the lead after the Conti defence failed to deal with a long throw and the Fulwood marksman gave Mark Whelan no chance with a great strike. Conti rarely threatened the home keeper despite creating several openings.

The 2nd half saw the introduction of Ian Parry who levelled the scores with a great header from a corner. The winner came from a John McCann through ball that deceived the home keeper and skipped over his head. Manager Danson was overall pleased with the showing after giving debut’s to several new faces who all performed well.

STATION 0 – 1 BAC CONTINENTAL CASUALS

A glorious autumnal morning saw CONTI take on Station at Moor Park.  A slow start from CONTI could have seen them go behind in the first five minutes on two occasions, but sloppy finishing meant Station could not take advantage.  As the first half went on CONTI grew in confidence and began to play some possession football on a difficult pitch.  The telling moment of the game saw Ian Parry held on the ground which resulted in a penalty that Matt Jackson duly converted.

CONTI owed a one nil lead at the interval down to keeper Kevin Baldwin as he pulled off a brilliant save down to his right from a header.  The second half saw Station control long periods of the game, but skipper Martin Boardman and debutant Andy Birch held CONTI together.  Keeper Baldwin made another telling save in stoppage time ensured CONTI went away with a victory and another clean sheet.

LFA Cup

BAC CONTINENTAL CASUALS 6 – 0 THE HOOP & MALLET CALLANDS

A sun drenched Sunday morning down at South Meadow lane saw Conti host ‘The Hoop & Mallet’, Callands in the LFA Cup. Little was known about the team from Warrington beforehand but BAC put aside any apprehension by quickly establishing a two goal lead with goals from Michael Bolton and Denis Greenwood: the first, a header after good work by Ian Parry down the right hand side, and the second a result of quick thinking from goalkeeper Kevin Baldwin whose timely clearance allowed Greenwood to run unchallenged from the halfway line and slot past the opposition keeper to make it 2-0. A Danny Wilcock-Billington free kick on the half hour made it 3-0 and at half time Conti were cruising.

A sterile beginning to the second half was lit up only by a Wilcock-Billington effort which was well saved by ‘The Hoop & Mallet’ goalkeeper but Conti soon reinforced their dominance as the wiry winger scored his second goal of the game with a simple side foot finish to make it 4-0. Denis Greenwood scored a fifth, finishing off a slick passing move with a great turn and strike into the top corner and Dan Morgan made it 6-0 late on after some good wing play by substitute Mark Whelan.

Manager Paul Danson was unavailable for comment after the match but it was thought that he will be happy with the overall performance of his team.
